Shan Bi and Junzhe Sun, geology and geophysics seniors at S&T, recently received Geological Society of America/ExxonMobil Field Camp Scholar Awards. Twelve undergraduates each received $2,000 to help cover costs of attending a summer field camp of their choice. The awards were based on diversity, economic and financial need, and merit.
The Missouri S&T Geology and Geophysics Field Camp held in Utah in May was the first to receive the GSA/ExxonMobil Field Camp Excellence Award. The $10,000 award was accepted by field camp director Dr. John Hogan, associate professor of geological sciences and engineering. The award was based on the camp’s safety awareness, diversity and technical excellence. Forty-eight students attended the three-week advanced field camp for juniors and seniors.
