Students receive Spooner scholarships

Three Ph.D. students majoring in geology and geophysics recently received Jeffrey Spooner Outstanding Graduate Scholarships. Ali Atef, Helen Carrie Bender and David Bridges were honored during the program’s homecoming banquet on the S&T campus. The award honors the late Dr. Jeffrey D. Spooner, the first Geology and Geophysics Advisory Board secretary, who passed away on Jan. 19, 2010.
Students also honored during the banquet were Devon Rumbaugh, Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant; Thomas Herbst, Outstanding Undergraduate Service Award and Clifford Bishop Memorial Scholarship; Robert Haselwander and Kate Schlarman, Alfred Spreng Undergraduate Research Award.
