Dr. Ganesh Thiagarajan, associate professor of civil engineering at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, will present a geotechnical structures graduate seminar titled “Size and Strain Rate Effect Comparison of Concrete Material Models in LSDYNA” from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, in Room 216 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall.

The primary research objectives are to study the behavior of (a) concrete material models in LSDYNA for mesh size and strain rate sensitivity when used in blast load applications, and (b) both high and normal strength concrete reinforced with high strength low alloy vanadium (HSLA-V) rebar that meets or exceeds blast resistance criteria with normal concrete. This presentation will focus on numerical simulations and their validation with experimental data from concrete slabs reinforced by HSLA-V steel. Two sets of experiments and the corresponding simulations will be discussed in detail.
