A class discussing the basics of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center. There is no charge for the class, but seating is limited. For information or to reserve a seat for the class, please contact John Woodson at jwoodson@mst.edu or 341-7544.
SBIR and STTR programs provide government money to small businesses willing and able to perform research and development for 11 participating government agencies. Under the SBIR program, agencies such as the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, NASA and the National Institute of Health must designate 2.5 percent of their extramural research and development budgets to small businesses (defined as less than 500 employees). This percentage translates to more than $2 billion per year.
The event is sponsored by Missouri S&T’s Small Business and Technology Development Center.
