In a Jan. 13 memo to Chancellor John F. Carney III and other general officers of the University of Missouri, UM System President Gary D. Forsee directed the university community to “significantly reduce expenditures” in a broad array of categories, including travel, meals, marketing and advertising, printing and publications, and the purchase of supplies. “Cost savings from these non-personnel expenditures may reduce the impact on personnel expenditures and our workforce,” Forsee wrote. “In order to reduce expenditures without putting the university at risk, management will need to exercise judgment in deciding what to eliminate and what to allow.”
