Tingzhi Su, an exchange student from Tongji University in Shanghai, China, successfully defended her Ph.D. dissertation last week via the web. Representatives from Missouri S&T and Tongji University judged her research and presentation performance at the same time using our distance learning facilities. Su is the first student from Tongji University to use this method.
Su will receive a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from Tongji University. Her research was supervised by Dr. Jianmin Wang, assistant professor in civil, architectural and environmental engineering. Su’s research focused on the removal of toxic elements from drinking water.
Su will continue her studies at S&T to pursue an additional Ph.D. in civil engineering, also supervised by Wang. A second exchange student from Tongji University, Yulin Tang, is also completing his Ph.D. research in Wang’s lab.
The Agreement of Academic Cooperation on Environmental Discipline between Missouri S&T and Tongji University was signed in April 2006.
