Porth lecture scheduled

Dr. Peter Wu, vice pressident and chief scientist at Spirit AeroSystems Inc. will be speaking on aircraft design, manufacturing and innovation at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in Room 125 of the Butler-Carlton Building. The general public is invited. Wu’s presenation is part of the Porth Lecture Series.


The Porth Lecture Series was established by a provision in the will of Miss Virginia Lee Porth. Harry William Lee Porth graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering in 1911 and earned a professional degree in 1924. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma social fraternity and Tau Beta Pi, engineering honor fraternity, and he played basketball from 1907-1911.
Porth worked for the Nevada Hills Mining company and then went to work for Swift and Company in Chicago. He served in several engineering assignments in the Swift plant at the Union Stock Yards and was in charge of the railway car department until his death, March 2, 1925.
