Faculty participation is vital when we welcome the new students to campus in August. There will be more than 1,050 new students on campus for Opening Week Orientation 2007. Interested faculty will eat lunch and meet in student mentor groups to discuss faculty expectations and classroom respect. The goal of this activity is to facilitate a positive interaction between the new students and faculty. This is an opportunity to give new students tips on how to be successful. The faculty interaction with new students will be scheduled from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, and on Thursday, Aug. 16. Faculty may choose to participate in one of three time slots on one or both days: 10:45-11:25 a.m., 11:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:35-1:15 p.m. Faculty who agree to participate are asked to attend a planning session from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 10, in the Havener Center. Lunch with student mentors who will be guiding the new students will follow the planning session. For more information, contact Patty Frisbee, New Student Programs, 101 University Center, 341-7045, pfrisbee@umr.edu.
