Mochalin publishes study on MXene hydrolysis

Dr. Vadym Mochalin, associate professor of chemisty, published a new study in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Nanoscale. The article, titled “Formation of Hydrocarbons and Carbon Oxides in Mxene Reactions with Water Under Varying Oxidative Conditions,” explores the chemical reactivity of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and carbonitrides (MXenes) with water.

Presentation to focus on nanotoxicity, bioactive molecules

Dr. Yue-Wern Huang, professor of biological sciences, will present a lecture 3-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in Room 104 Centennial Hall. Huang’s presentation will be titled “Delivery of Biologically Active Molecules for Biomedical Research and Application: Uptake, Efficacy and Toxicity.”

Environmental engineering expert to speak Feb. 16

Dr. John Fortner will present a lecture, titled “Multifunctional Nanoscale Platform Materials for Advanced Environmental Applications,” 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in Room 124 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Fortner is an associate professor of energy, environmental and chemical engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.
