Research on ants’ lifestyle gets attention

Findings by Missouri S&T researchers suggest that ants need work-life balance to survive. Dr. Chen Hou, assistant professor of biological sciences, led the research team that wrote, “Heterogeneous Activity Causes A Nonlinear Increase in the Group Energy Use of Ant Workers Isolated from Queen and Brood.” The article is published in the February 2017 issue of Insect Science. The research team includes Dr. Zhaozheng Yin, assistant professor and Daniel C. St. Clair Fellow of computer science; Nolan Ferral, a sophomore in biological sciences; Kyara Holloway, a junior in biological sciences; and Mingzhong Li, a Ph.D. student in computer science.
