After 46 years of teaching and research in the physics department at Missouri S&T, Dr. Barbara N. Hale has retired. In 1973, Hale was one of the first two women to join the Missouri S&T physics faculty. The physics department honored Hale with a retirement celebration in early March. Read more.

Maples, interim chancellor, and Cuba Plain, interim vice chancellor for finance and operations, answered questions from employees at a staff forum hosted by Staff Council on March 16. Candidate forums planned today, Wednesday

Students, faculty and staff are invited to meet the candidates for Missouri S&T’s vice chancellor for research and dean of graduate studies (VCRDGS) during open forums. The first candidate’s open forum was held March 13. The next forums will be held:

  • Candidate 2, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, March 19, in St. Pat’s A of the Havener Center
  • Candidate 3, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in St. Pat’s B of the Havener Center

Prior to each candidate’s visit, the candidate’s bio and curriculum vitae will be posted at provost.mst.edu/vcrdgs-search. Attendees may also provide feedback at provost.mst.edu/vcrdgs-search following each forum.

Grad fair at bookstore kicks off March 21

The S&T Store will hold a grad fair 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, and Thursday, March 22. Save 10 percent on caps and gowns and diploma frames. On both days, students can pick up personalized graduation announcements 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and get senior portraits taken for the yearbook 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Enter to win prizes, including a regalia set (cap, gown and tassel) or a diploma frame. Visit with staff from the registrar’s office and career opportunities and employer relations (COER).

UM System, McGraw-Hill Education expand access to affordable course materials

The University of Missouri System and learning science company McGraw-Hill Education announced on March 7 an agreement that will increase student access to affordable course materials. The cost of all McGraw-Hill Education electronic textbooks will be lowered by an additional 38 percent to meet the university system’s definition of low cost.

Look up to the sky, see Messier 3 tonight

The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 10:30 p.m. for viewing star cluster Messier 3 through the observatory’s 16-inch diameter telescope on Thursday, March 22. The sky must be clear for observing, and the session length will vary.

Lab expansion receives $300,000 gift from ARCO Construction Co.
