Faculty and staff should encourage students to attend the “Study Abroad Fair,” 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in the Havener Center atrium to learn about the many study abroad opportunities available to students at Missouri S&T. Questions about how classes transfer, language requirements (if any), application process, deadlines, life abroad, financial aid and study abroad in general will be answered.

Test anxiety workshop

Do you know students who struggle with test anxiety? Let them know that counseling, disability support and student wellness will present a three-session workshop to help manage anxiety and perform better academically. The series will be held 3:30-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, Sept. 17, and Sept. 24. For the location and to reserve a space, students are asked to contact counsel@mst.edu or call 341-4211. Space is limited and participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Counseling, disability support and student wellness offers tips on its website. If you hear students report feeling overwhelmed, suggest that they talk to a professional. Faculty, staff and friends golf league

The Missouri S&T faculty, staff and friends golf league will begin play at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Miners’ Golf Course. The league welcomes players of all abilities from beginners to experienced. The tournament is a scramble format, which makes it easier for beginning golfers and players with limited skills to enjoy the game. The league will play every Tuesday for eight weeks, with makeup games for rainouts held the following Thursday. There will be a couple of changes for the fall 2014 league:

Students planning to attend the career opportunities and employer relations boot camp must sign up to attend by going to your local complex front desk and ask for a sign-up sheet. Alcohol screening offered

A free and confidential alcohol screening will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the Havener Center atrium. Sixty-eight percent of S&T students have between zero and four drinks when they party with friends. The event is sponsored by counseling, disability support and student wellness.

RMU asks to reduce electrical usage

Rolla Municipal Utilities has asked the campus to try to reduce electrical usage 2-6 p.m. today (Monday, Aug. 25). Utilities officials expect these to be peak electrical usage periods. They don’t want any reduction to be disruptive to the normal course of business, but appreciate efforts to eliminate unneeded loads.
