Funeral information for Garry Scantlin
Garry Scantlin, retired member of the physical facilities staff at Missouri S&T, died Saturday, June 6. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. today (Tuesday, June 9) in the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary, 117 Seymour St. in St. James, Missouri. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the same location.
Mr. Scantlin joined the staff of Missouri S&T in April 1999 and retired in September 2010. He is the husband of Betty Scantlin, telecommunication IT analyst in information technology.

The myLearn training tool is undergoing a redesign and upgrade. University employees can now more easily brush up on and learn new skills, increase productivity, augment performance plans, earn certifications, and access training on computers and mobile devices at any time except for 5-7 p.m. Sundays, and midnight-1a.m. Wednesdays.

Registration is now open for the Women in Leadership Conference June 22-23 in Columbia, Missouri. The conference, sponsored by the University of Missouri System Leadership Development Team, highlights topics important to women and leadership in academia. The event provides opportunities for faculty, staff and graduate students across all university units and departments to share ideas, discuss issues relevant to gender in the workplace and sharpen leadership skills relevant to professional success.

Fireworks displays will be visible at the Experimental Mine, located on Bridge School Road in southeast Rolla, on two Fridays in June for the conclusion of each Explosives Camp session. The fireworks will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, and Friday, June 26. Parking is limited at the mine. Information technology will perform Blackboard maintenance starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 2. This will be performed during normal university business hours, unlike most Blackboard maintenance. Blackboard will be unavailable for approximately six hours, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Dan Uetrecht, director of networks and computing in Missouri S&T’s information technology division, has been named interim chief information officer for the university effective June 1. He will succeed current CIO Greg Smith, who announced earlier this year that he will be leaving Missouri S&T at the end of May.
