The Fall 2016 newsletter for the Research on Concrete Applications for Sustainable Transportation (RE-CAST) University Transportation Center is available online. RE-CAST is a Tier-1 university transportation center led by Missouri S&T in partnership with Rutgers University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Miami and Southern University-Baton Rouge. The Space Week presentation by Missouri S&T graduate and former NASA astronaut Sandra Magnus, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight, Friday, Nov. 4, in Toomey Hall, has been cancelled.

Graduate studies, with the assistance of an ad hoc committee, developed online resources about funding for graduate students. The website, grad.mst.edu/gragtagafunding, features a graduate funding calculator and a list of frequently asked questions with responses. Students can use the funding calculator, located on the right side of the page, to calculate estimated tuition and fees based on their degree level, program, stipend or appointment level and resident status.

The Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies (CIES) invites the campus community to a seminar by Dr. Thomas Kang, a visiting professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an associate professor at Seoul National University. Kang will present “Computational Design of Unbonded Post-tensioned Concrete Structures” 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in Room 124 Butler-Carlton Hall. Refreshments will be served. The campus literary and arts magazine, SOUTHWINDS, is seeking poetry, short stories, photos and original art for its annual fall creativity contest. Suggested themes include food, the supernatural and time, but all submissions will be considered. Winners will be selected in each category and receive a prize. Enter your submission via the SOUTHWINDS website or email your submission as an attachment by Friday, Nov. 11.
