Members of the Missouri S&T Steel Bridge Design Team along with faculty, staff and students in civil, architectural and environmental engineering, will host a campuswide tribute for Dr. Timothy Philpot. Philpot, associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at Missouri S&T, died unexpectedly from a stroke on Jan. 25. The ceremony will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 3, in the Kummer Atrium of Butler-Carlton Hall. The event will include a short service with several speakers and a dedication of the team’s 2017 bridge.

The Missouri S&T Innovation Team has announced its fiscal year 2017 funding for innovation proposals presented at the Miner Tank competitions this academic year. Read more about these projects:

Missouri S&T’s Mars Rover Design Team will unveil Gryphon, this year’s student-built rover, at noon Friday, March 3, in the Havener Center atrium. After unveiling the rover, the team will host a meet-and-greet with team members and showcase parts and aspects of the vehicle. The team will compete at the Mars Society’s 2017 University Rover Challenge, held June 1-3 at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville, Utah. Approximately 30 university teams worldwide will compete at the event.

The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, for viewing the moon through the university’s 16-inch-diameter telescope. Come see the pock-marked surface of the moon in surprising detail.

Missouri S&T has installed water refill bottle stations in many locations across campus. Check out this map from the Center for Sustainability to find the water bottle refill station closest to you. Click on the blue water glass symbol on a building for a description of the locations inside.

The IT help Desk and walk-in center will be closed 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, March 9, due to a campus technology support staff event. The Help Desk will reopen at noon and resume regular business hours, closing at 5 p.m.

Missouri S&T and the City of Rolla are exploring the development of a transit system to serve the campus and Rolla communities. Please take the short survey by Wednesday, March 15, to provide input on your transportation needs, experiences and preferences.

The Focus on Teaching and Technology Conference (FTTC) planning committee is accepting proposals for the 16th annual conference, which will be held Sept. 28-29 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Proposals are due by Monday, May 1. Submit a proposal. Proposals will be reviewed in May and those selected will be notified in mid-June.
