Curtis Laws Wilson Library’s poster printing center will be closed Monday, Nov. 25, through Friday, Nov. 29, for Thanksgiving break. Regular business hours of 9 a.m.-4 p.m. will resume on Monday, Dec. 2.

The office of undergraduate studies will recognize faculty who involve or influence students in academic service learning or community service activities outside the classroom. All students, faculty, staff and community partners can submit nominations for this faculty award.

The Intelligent Systems Center is sponsoring its ninth annual Poster Presentation from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the upper atrium of the Havener Center. ISC-supported students will display posters highlighting current research on one of the following areas: intelligent manufacturing processes, equipment and systems, intelligent cyber-physical systems, advanced simulation, sensing, control and communications, computational intelligence, and embedded systems.

Dr. Joseph W. Newkirk, associate professor of metallurgical engineering at S&T, was recently named a 2013 Fellow of Alpha Sigma Mu, the Materials Honor Society. He was honored at the society’s 2013 meeting in Montreal, Canada. The award is given to those who achieve a “seminal international standing in the materials science and engineering profession.” Newkirk is the faculty advisor to the local student chapter of Alpha Sigma Mu.

The Libyan Students Association will host Libyan Night from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Leadership and cultural programs is sponsoring a trip to Missouri State University to see a Native American pow-wow in recognition of Native American Heritage Month on Saturday, Nov. 16. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with transportation provided leaving from the Havener Center with an approximate return time of 6:30 p.m. Meals and additional expenses will not be provided. Those interested in attending must sign up at lcprograms.mst.edu no later than Wednesday, Nov. 13.
