Dr. Daniel Shank, associate professor of psychological science, was lead author of a commentary published in Trends in Cognitive Sciences titled “Artificial intimacy: ethical issues of AI romance.” In the piece, Shank examines complex ethical questions raised by the emergence of romantic relationships with artificial intelligence.

Three honored with 2025 Grainger Power Engineering Awards

Electrical and computer engineering recognized three electrical engineering graduates with the 2025 Grainger Power Engineering Award during a ceremony on May 17. Supported by a $1.3 million endowment from The Grainger Foundation, the awards honor students who demonstrate exceptional promise in power engineering. Each recipient received $6,000 to support early career development in the power industry.

Mochalin publishes research on quantum emitters in nitrogen-doped diamond

Dr. Vadym Mochalin, professor of chemistry, co-authored a research article with collaborators from Australia and Germany in ACS Nano. The article, titled “The Nitrogen-Vacancy-Nitrogen Color Center: A Ubiquitous Visible and Near-Infrared-II Quantum Emitter in Nitrogen-Doped Diamond,” reports widespread presence of the nitrogen-vacancy-nitrogen (NVN) color center in both bulk diamond and nanodiamonds.
