Poetry reading by Charlotte Matthews

The One Book Program presents a poetry reading by Charlotte Matthews, the Maxwell C. Weiner Distinguished Visiting Professor of Humanities at S&T, in conjunction with this year’s selected One Book title, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The reading will take place 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Ozark Room of the Havener Center. The reading is free and open to the public.

The science behind Henrietta Lacks

Students from the International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) design team will give an interactive demonstration of the science at the heart of S&T’s current One Book Program selection, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The demonstration will take place 4-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in St. Pat’s Ballroom B of the Havener Center. This event is free and open to the public.

No Impact Week events

Join Eco Miners for No Impact Week Sunday, April 13, through Friday, April 18. Themes for Monday through Wednesday include transportation, water, and trash and recycling. These days will include activities where attendees are eligible for prizes. Other events include a clean-up noon-3 p.m. Sunday, April 13 (attendees should meet in the Havener Center); Earth Day 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, April 17; and a FreeCycle 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, April 18. Advertise to new students

The “Plug Into Green” project is even bigger this year. New student programs is once again putting together an electronic magazine to be placed on a flash drive and distributed to all new students in the fall. To be a part of the magazine, submit an advertisement for your department or group via email and pay a small advertising. The cost is $25 a page; ads are due by June 1.
