Earth Day green bike ride

If you like biking and want to know more about “green” locations in Rolla, join the Green Fun Ride at 3 p.m. today (Thursday, April 17) on the Painted Street in front of the Havener Center. The Green Fun Ride will take bike riders on a route to all of the green areas in Rolla. It will be a non-competitive ride of eight-to-10 miles long. Riders must bring their own bikes. eBus to begin service today

Students, faculty and staff can now ride around campus in a new electric shuttle bus thanks to the office of sustainable energy and environmental engagement (OSE3). Windows XP support ended

Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on April 8. Information technology has worked with S&T departments to identify and phase out more than 3,000 XP systems over the past three years. Now that Microsoft has officially ended support, once a security exploit for Windows XP is detected by IT Security, access to the campus network may be prohibited for any Windows XP system without further notice. The campus community is encouraged to upgrade any personally owned XP systems to avoid security and network access issues.

Blackboard course renumbering in fall

As a result of a proposal that was submitted and approved by the Faculty Senate to renumber course offerings at Missouri S&T, the registrar and academic departments are converting courses to a new four-digit numbering system for the fall semester. Blackboard courses for fall 2014 are currently not available for development by instructors while IT, EdTech and the registrar’s office work together to prepare the campus for the transition. While the official “cut-over” date is Aug. 1, the campus is actively working to get Blackboard courses with the new numbers available by the end of April for instructors to use for fall course development.

Nominate staff for excellence awards

Staff Council is seeking nominations for the 2014 Staff Excellence Awards. Nine staff members will receive awards this year during Staff Day on Wednesday, May 28, in recognition of their contributions to the university. Any staff, faculty or student at Missouri S&T may submit nominations. Awards will be given in the following categories: administrative/professional, secretarial/clerical, technical/paraprofessional and crafts/services. Nomination forms are available for download at staffcouncil.mst.edu. You can also submit your form online at http://goo.gl/iwLFFp. You will need to sign in using your S&T Google account. The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 18.
