New roles for Ralph Flori

Dr. Ralph E. Flori Jr., chair and Gulf Oil Professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering, will step down from that position effective Dec. 31 to coordinate strategic planning initiatives within the College of Engineering and Computing. He will also assume greater responsibility leading Missouri S&T’s Project Lead The Way (PLTW) efforts. He has served as affiliate director of Missouri’s PLTW since 2005.

Benefits enrollment computer lab

Benefit-eligible faculty and staff who do not have access to computers or who need a little extra help with enrolling for benefits can use a human resource services-staffed computer lab. It will be open 7 a.m.-noon Monday, Oct. 20, and Monday, Oct. 27, in Room 105 Centennial Hall. No appointment is necessary and staff will be on site to help with any questions you may have or to walk you through the steps.

National Chemistry Week

The South Central Missouri section of the American Chemical Society invites the campus community and their families to celebrate National Chemistry Week at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, in Schrenk Hall. Signs will point visitors to the event, which will feature hands-on experiments for students in grades 5-8. A formal chemistry demonstration show to take place at 3 p.m.

Staff Appreciation Day is Oct. 31

In appreciation for hard work and dedication of Missouri S&T staff, Staff Council invites all staff to join them for free hot chocolate and hot apple cider 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Puck. A Staff I.D. is required for admission. Staff Council will also have a pumpkin-carving contest that day. Drop off a carved pumpkin between 8:30-8:45 a.m. to the tent at the Puck. After voting, the winner will receive a $30 S&T Bookstore gift card.

Graduate studies family Halloween party

Graduate studies will host its second annual “Graduate Family Halloween Party” 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Puck. All departments and organizations are invited to take part a table-decorating contest. Bring candy, creativity and costumes to introduce graduate students and their families to trick-or-treating while showing you appreciate having them on campus. Take a stress reduction class

Stress-reduction meditation is offered on a drop-in basis with no pre-registration needed 12:15-12:45 p.m. every Wednesday in the Shamrock Room of the Havener Center. Classes meet every week university classes are in session during the fall and spring. No classes are held during finals weeks or in the summer. Participants will generally be led through stress-reducing breathing techniques for 30 minutes. Join in and stay for a question-and-answer session afterwards 12:45-1 p.m. No experience is needed and the class is free.
