Tap into fiber optics discussion at Public House

On Sept. 1, 1968, Dr. Gerald Cohen, professor of Russian and German, and Dr. Gary Long, professor of chemistry, began teaching at Missouri S&T. The College of Arts, Sciences, and Business will host a reception to honor them for 50 years of service 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the second floor gallery of Curtis Laws Wilson Library.   • Mining Magazine published the article, “Missouri S&T Team Takes on Explosive Engineering Research” on July 30 about research led by Dr. Kyle Perry, assistant professor of mining and nuclear engineering. In the study, Perry’s team will pair explosives with common mining materials, with the ultimate goal of improving mine safety.
  • Dr. Larry Gragg, professor emeritus of history, was interviewed by reporter Tom Hawley on channel KSNV in Las Vegas. In the news segment, which aired Aug. 1, Gragg discussed how mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel shaped Las Vegas.

    Retirement reception planned for Yinfa Ma

    The College of Arts, Sciences, and Business, along with S&T’s chemistry department, will host a retirement reception for Dr. Yinfa Ma 2-4 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in St. Pat’s Ballroom B of the Havener Center. Ma is a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of chemistry and associate dean for research and external relations in the College of Arts, Sciences and Business. He joined the S&T chemistry faculty in 2000.
