Nominations are now being accepted for the Joe Mooney Distinguished Student Award. To nominate a student for the 2025–26 academic year, please submit a nomination form by Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025. The criteria for selection are:

• High achievement level for a sophomore or junior in a campus organization
• Outstanding dedication to the community or school
• Demonstrated leadership potential
• Substantial indications of commitment to serve others.

One $1,600 award will be given to an outstanding member of a recognized student organization, and another $1,600 award will be given to an outstanding officer in a recognized student organization. The awards will be presented at the Student Leaders’ Award Banquet this spring.

This award was established in memory of Joseph W. Mooney, a past president of the Miner Alumni Association Board of Directors who served on the board for 30 years. An Honorary Knight of St. Patrick, he was awarded the S&T Chancellor Medal and an Award of Professional Distinction in engineering management from Missouri S&T.
