Geophysicist named outstanding educator

Dr. Kelly H. Liu, professor of geophysics, has received the Outstanding Educator Award from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). She will be formally recognized during SEG’s annual meeting in Denver in September.

The Outstanding Educator Award honors individuals for excellence in geophysics education, based on educational qualities that may include the following:

  • Outstanding contributions in teaching of geophysics classes at any educational
    level
  • Impact on education programs by commitment to excellence in geophysics
    education
  • Special dedication to advising, supervising and mentoring students
  • Providing extraordinary inspiration to the next generation of geophysics
    professionals.

Liu joined S&T’s faculty as an associate professor in 2006. She has won several faculty awards from S&T and was named a College of Engineering and Computing Dean’s Educator in 2020.
