Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, the John A. and Susan Mathes Chair of Environmental Engineering at Missouri S&T, will be recognized with the Steven K. Dental AEESP Award for Global Outreach at the annual awards ceremony of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors on June 16, 2015 at Yale University.
Established by the association in 2014, and awarded initially to its namesake, Professor Steven K. Dental from the University of Delaware, the award honors a faculty member who has made outstanding contributions and demonstrated leadership through involvement in environmental engineering and science outreach activities to the global community.
“Dr. Oerther has given freely of his time, talent and treasure both to educate professionals around the world and to connect U.S. students to those outside of the U.S. needing our knowledge and expertise,” says Dr. Glenn Daigger, a member of the National Academies of Engineering. “Recognized by other professions and by the highest levels of the U.S. government, it is appropriate that AEESP recognize Dan’s outstanding and ongoing contributions.”
In 2014, Dental was recognized as the inaugural and namesake recipient for his dedication as the faculty adviser of the University of Delaware’s Engineers Without Borders chapter, and his role as an exemplary model setting the standard for what global outreach leadership means to the AEESP community. Dental died in spring 2015.
The AEESP is the premiere organization for faculty in environmental engineering and science with more than 900 global members who provide education in the sciences and technologies of environmental protection.
