Dress casual to benefit MS on April 9

Staff Council is sponsoring an MS Casual Day on Friday, April 9, to benefit multiple sclerosis. For a $3 donation, you can wear your jeans and help Donna Kreisler and Katie (Frisbee) O'Malley reach their goal of raising $2,500 for MS. Kreisler and O'Malley will also walk 50 miles in three days to help fund MS research.

Spelunkers and Dake Geological Society give up a day to clean cave

The department of geological sciences and engineering thanks the Spelunkers Club and the C. L. Dake Geological Society for sacrificing their St. Pat's break on Friday, March 12, to clean minerals out of McCormick Cave. Thanks to Michael Bradford, Bradley Brookshire, Kiley Bush, Peter Chollet, Thomas Herbst, Laura Siskin, Katherine Stockdale and Kelly Whitset of the U.S. Forest Service for putting on their mucking equipment, picking up a shovel and cleaning out the cave.

Zumba continues

Zumba classes at S&T are expanding to Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Instructors from andFLEW! Studios will offer two sessions of the class, at 5 p.m. Tuesdays in the Havener Center, and at 5 p.m. Thursdays in the basement of Residential College 2. Each session is eight weeks long and costs $16, or $32 for both days. The class is open to faculty, staff and their families. Bookstore to offer discounts, author signing

Woman of the Year Luncheon tickets available

Find out who will be this year's Woman of the Year at the 2010 Woman of the Year Luncheon scheduled from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, in St Pat's A&B of the Havener Center. Tickets may be purchased before Wednesday, April 7, by contacting Connie Goodridge at 341-4114 or goodridge@mst.edu. Tickets are $14 for faculty and staff, and $7 for students. No university funds may be used for ticket purchases.

Chicken fiesta salad and apple pie will be served. If requested, table reservations can be taken for groups of four or more individuals.

This year's speaker will be Dr. Kate Drowne, associate professor of English and technical communication and director of the Writing Center. Drowne will present "The Flapper in American Literature and Culture of the 1920s."

Ahmad to present next installment in travel abroad series

Dr. Diana Ahmad, associate professor of history and political science, will discuss her experiences living and traveling around the world as part of the presentation series "Adventures Abroad: Why Leaving the Country Made Me Better." The series highlights the adventures of S&T community members who have studied, researched or served overseas. Find out why global awareness is not only important and valuable, but fun too. Workshops to focus on understanding, inclusion

There will be a SafeSpace Workshop offered from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, in the Silver and Gold Room of the Havener Center. There will be an additional workshop from 2-3 p.m. Friday, April 16, location to be announced. These workshops will help participants gain an understanding of the gay, lesbian, bi-affectionate, transgender, queer, questioning intersex and ally (GLBTIQQA) community in order to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Driving range permanently closed

The driving range at the Miner Golf Course has permanently closed to allow for construction of the Missouri S&T Innovation Park. The nine-hole course is otherwise unaffected by this change. The golf course opens on Monday, March 15, for regular business.
