Update on S&T’s campus realignment

Several organizational changes will take place as a result of the campus budget plan, which begins Saturday, July 1, the start of fiscal year 2018. Several of these transitions will begin July 1, while others are scheduled to begin at later dates, as noted in the full article. These changes include a change in direct reports to the chancellor (including a reduction in the number of vice chancellors) and a reduction in the number of direct reports to the provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs (from 11 positions to nine).

Hilmas named interim chair of materials science and engineering

Dr. Gregory Hilmas, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of ceramic engineering, has been named interim chair of materials science and engineering, effective July 1. Hilmas will replace Dr. Matthew O’Keefe, who has served as chair of materials science and engineering since March 2016. O’Keefe will return to full-time teaching and research within the department in the fall semester. Next January, O’Keefe will become executive director of the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence at the University of Mississippi. Get more details.

Watch Maker Faire video

Catch a glimpse of the invention, creativity and artistry of Maker Faire Kansas City in this one-minute video. The Mars Rover Design Team and other tech-savvy S&T students showed off their talents over the weekend, June 24-25, at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri. Missouri S&T was a sponsor of the event. Students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, volunteers and Joe Miner represented our university. Dubbed the “the greatest show and tell on earth,” Maker Faire drew approximately 17,000 attendees to the family-friendly showcase of hobbies, experiments and projects of engineers, artists, scientists and crafters. Rock the blood drive with KKID, get T-shirt

Staff Council will sponsor a “Hometown Heroes Save Lives” blood drive 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, June 29, and Friday, June 30, in St. Pat’s A and B of the Havener Center. The KKID 92.9 FM radio station will broadcast live 11 a.m.-1 p.m. from Havener Center both days. Blood drive donors can get free T-shirts and snacks. Who are you gonna call? Discover the right on-call person after hours

University Police maintains an updated contact list of on-call representatives from physical facilities. If you get an alarm for your department after hours or on a weekend and you are not sure who to contact in physical facilities, you can contact University Police at 341-4300 to get the name and phone number of the appropriate on-call staff. The police staff is available 24/7. During routine business hours, please contact physical facilities at 341-4252.

IT Help Desk to temporarily close June 29, July 3-4

Missouri S&T’s IT Help Desk will be closed 1-3 p.m. Thursday, June 29, for a campus technology staff event. The IT Help Desk will reopen at 3 p.m. on June 29. The IT Help Desk will be closed Monday, July 3, and Tuesday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. It will reopen Wednesday, July 5.

Emerson breezeway to close temporarily June 22

The breezeway at Emerson Hall will be closed Thursday, June 22. Individuals will not be able to walk through the breezeway, located between the east and west sides of the building. Crews will be removing stones from the roof during this time as part of fire cleanup. The walkway will reopen Friday, June 23.
