UM system budget announcement planned June 2

University of Missouri System President Mun Y. Choi will present the system’s budget plan for fiscal year 2018 and beyond during a presentation at 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The presentation will be live streamed at 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall, and members of the Missouri S&T community are encouraged to attend. Faculty, staff and students may also watch the address via a live stream (the link will be available on on the device of their choice.

Retirement reception planned for Mitsy Daniels

Mitsy Daniels, fiscal manager, will retire in June after 38 years of service to the university. Please join her colleagues at a retirement reception 2-4 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in 305 McNutt Hall.

Death of Molly Mills

Molly Mills, a former staff member who served Missouri S&T for 39 years, died Friday, May 26. She joined the university in 1971 as a secretary and retired in 2010 as an executive assistant in University Advancement.

Conflict of interest reporting due June 1

Have you completed your conflict of interest report? The University of Missouri System requires that every faculty member and exempt staff member submit a report of outside consultation activities every year. Complete your report at by Thursday, June 1.

Dr. Richard W. Wlezien named vice provost and dean of CEC

Dr. Richard W. Wlezien, the Vance and Arlene Coffman Endowed Department Chair in Aerospace Engineering at Iowa State University and a former researcher and program director at NASA and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has been named vice provost and dean of Missouri S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing. Wlezien will begin his new duties on Aug. 1. Read more at

Register for training on travel, expense reimbursements

University of Missouri System’s accounts payable shared services team will present “Employee Reimbursements in Travel and Expense Module” during two sessions Monday, June 12, in Room 235 Engineering Management Building. The training is designed for employees who work directly with these transactions, approve them or supervise employees who do. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Choose to attend training at 10-11:30 a.m. or 1-2:30 p.m. Register on the accounts payable shared services site.

Meet military commanders at picnic June 1

The Phelps for the Fort committee, which includes Missouri S&T and the chambers of commerce for Rolla and St. James, will host an Association of the United States Army barbecue at 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Veterans Memorial Park on Southview Drive in Rolla. The event is open to the campus community.

Weight Watchers at Work needs more members to keep the meetings on campus. If you’d like to learn more, drop by the meeting at noon Tuesday, June 6, in Room 202 Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Check it out for free. The next session is scheduled to begin Tuesday, June 13, with meetings in Room 202 at the library.
