Internal communications survey results available

Most faculty and staff believe Missouri S&T’s official communication channels keep them informed, according to an internal communications survey conducted in February. Overall, 67 percent of respondents said they are “very well informed” or “well informed” and 27 percent said they are “adequately informed.” View the survey results.

  • Of 12 communication channels, the top three that survey respondents said they use to receive information and identified as how they prefer to receive information are:
    1. Faculty and staff eConnection
    2. Supervisor or department chair
    3. Departmental meetings

Board of Curators sets tuition for upcoming year

The University of Missouri System’s Board of Curators on May 23 voted to increase tuition by 2.1 percent at all four campuses for Fiscal Year 2018. At Missouri S&T, the yearly tuition for Missouri resident undergraduate students will increase by $201 when compared to Fiscal Year 2017. The tuition increase complies with a Missouri law (Higher Education Student Funding Act, or HESFA, Senate Bill 389) that requires tuition increases do not exceed the state’s consumer price index. Missouri’s CPI is currently 2.1 percent.

Encourage your teen to attend Jackling summer camp

From iPads to interstates, engineers change the world. Encourage your teen to attend Missouri S&T’s Jackling Introduction to Engineering camp for rising high school juniors and seniors. Attendees will participate in hands-on activities and learn how math and science relate to engineering. Camps will be held the weeks of June 11-15, June 25-29 and July 9-13. Dr. Suzanna Long named EMSE chair

Dr. Suzanna Long, professor of engineering management and systems engineering, has been named chair of the department. The appointment takes effect July 1.

Dr. Susan Murray named chair of psychological science

Dr. Susan L. Murray has been named chair of psychological science. Murray had served as interim chair since July 2015. Her appointment takes effect July 1.

Professional development center relocates to PCRMC

The South Central Regional Professional Development Center has moved from 800 University Drive to new office space in Suite E103 in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center’s annex. The annex is located at 1100 W. 10th St. in Rolla.

Physics professor’s play to debut at Newburg theater

Dr. Greg Story, an associate professor of physics, will star in a play he wrote, “The Incredible Roscoe’s Boxes of Mystery” at the Lyric Live Theater in Newburg, Missouri. Shows will run on Friday, May 26, Saturday, May 27, Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free, with donations to the Lyric Live Theater accepted. Dessert will be served at the Houston House during intermission. The play is a comedy, which begins as a Vaudeville show, but when things go wrong on stage, turns into a mystery. Story will play the part of The Incredible Roscoe.
