Catch the action of S&T’s Miner Tank

On the hit TV show, “Shark Tank,” entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to investors. At Missouri S&T’s Miner Tank, faculty and staff will pitch proposals for innovative projects to the Missouri S&T Innovation Team. Miner Tank will be held 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center.

Campus master plan update set for Feb. 8

The campus community is invited to an open forum to review progress and make changes to Missouri S&T’s campus master plan 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in St. Pat’s Ballroom A of the Havener Center. The campus master plan focuses on the physical campus environment (buildings, facilities and grounds. The 2017 Campus Master Plan Update will be presented to the Board of Curators during the April meeting.

Volunteers needed for robotics events

Volunteers are needed for two robotics competitions for high school students that will be held on Missouri S&T’s campus:

  • VEX Robotics: Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Student Recreation Center, register by contacting Linda Bright, event manager for recruitment marketing and Project Lead The Way
  • FIRST Robotics: Saturday, March 4, at the Gale Bullman Building, register online

Poetry is Power to examine race, patriotism in American poems

All are welcome to attend “Poetry is Power: Race and Patriotism in American Poetry” 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. The event will highlight a series of 20th-century African-American poems focused on complicated issues of America, patriotism, citizenship and race relations. A dessert reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., and student performances of spoken word and song will begin at 7 p.m.

Give blood at the Havener Center

There is an emergency appeal for O- and O+ blood types and a shortage for all other blood types in the local supply. Volunteers may give at the Havener Center in the St. Pat’s Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day from Tuesday, Jan. 31, to Friday, Feb. 3.

Help students with Ph.D. practice interviews

Career opportunities and employer relations seeks faculty and staff with search committee or hiring experience to assist with Ph.D. mock video interviews. Help transform your star students into star candidates. Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to:

  1. provide sets of up to 10 discipline-specific interview questions for PhD students and/or
  1. record questions for the online practice interview program, InterviewStream

Caroline Murphy, R.N., the University of Missouri System’s UnitedHealthcare nurse liaison, will be on campus for a class and one-on-one appointments with faculty and staff. Passing of Dr. Tim Philpot

Dr. Tim Philpot, associate professor of structural engineering in the civil, architectural and environmental engineering department, died Wednesday (Jan. 25, 2017). No immediate memorial service is planned. The family plans to hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
