Khayat to receive national award for concrete innovation

Dr. Kamal Khayat will be honored with the ACI Foundation’s Jean-Claude Roumain Innovation in Concrete Award in March 2017. The award will be presented March 26 during the ACI Spring 2017 Concrete Convention and Exposition in Detroit.

Awuah-Offei selected to work with West African university

Dr. Kwame Awuah-Offei, associate professor of mining and nuclear engineering, was awarded a fellowship by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program to travel to Ghana, West Africa, to work with the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT).

Madria named ‘Distinguished Scientist’ by ACM

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) has named Dr. Sanjay Madria, professor of computer science, a Distinguished Scientist for his contributions to data management in mobile computing.

Paying off — S&T on MONEY’S list for alumni earning six figures

The average mid-career salary for Missouri S&T alumni is $103,000, according to an article published on MONEY magazine’s website Dec. 1. S&T was one of 11 public American colleges listed in MONEY’s “11 Public Colleges Where Grads Make Six Figures.”

Girls in Tech calls Nah ‘woman to watch’ in virtual reality

Dr. Fiona Nah, professor of business and information technology, was recently named among a handful of “top women to watch” in virtual reality by Girls in Tech. Girls in Tech is a global non-profit organization focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of girls and women who are passionate about technology.

Celebrate at Chancellor’s holiday brunch Dec. 6

Missouri S&T faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the holidays with refreshments, piano music, caroling and great company at the Chancellor’s Holiday Brunch 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Hasselmann Alumni House. The elves in the “Merry Miners Workshop” need your help to make the holidays brighter for those less fortunate. Guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or a canned food donation to give to those in need within our community.

Testing Center fills for finals week

During finals week, Missouri S&T’s Testing Center is overbooked. The staff is working to make alternative arrangements; however, you may receive an email stating the Testing Center is unable to administer a final exam. Students and faculty will be notified as quickly as possible.

Open forums on CEC dean search begin today

Search firm representatives will hold open forums Monday, Dec. 5, and Tuesday, Dec. 6, to discuss Missouri S&T’s process for selecting the College of Engineering and Computing’s vice provost and dean. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a forum.

Campus master plan updates set for Dec. 7

Students, faculty and staff are invited to open forums to review progress and provide input on Missouri S&T’s campus master plan. The meetings will be 12:30-2 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. Please attend the forum that works best with your schedule. The campus master plan focuses on the physical campus environment (buildings, facilities and grounds).

Volunteer for the Spring Career Fair

Career opportunities and employer relations (COER) seeks volunteers to staff the Spring Career Fair, scheduled for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Gale Bullman Building.
