Faculty Senate meeting today

Missouri S&T’s Faculty Senate will meet at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Oct. 23) in Room 204 McNutt Hall. Visit the Faculty Senate website for a copy of the agenda.

Area J Lot 45 closed Oct. 25

Area J Lot 45 will be closed Saturday, Oct. 25, for sealing and painting. Please park in Area H Lot 37 during this time.

Area X parking changes

Area X, the parking lot by the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building, is for activities within the building or those who have an Area X permit only. Employees must purchase any permit to park in this lot. Any lettered permit will be authorized to park in this area. Students can register their vehicle at no charge and park within this lot, while utilizing the building during open building hours, for a period not to exceed three hours. Overnight parking is restricted to specifically authorized vehicles.

Second NSF EPSCoR meeting

Missouri is eligible for the National Science Foundation’s experimental program to stimulate competitive research (EPSCoR) and will submit one proposal statewide. Sponsored programs will hold the second information and idea-sharing meeting for faculty to organize a proposal 3-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Room 140 Toomey Hall. This session is titled “Water-Food-Energy Nexus.”

Spring CLC software requests now open

Do you need specialized software such as Visual Studio, SPSS, NX, Minitab, Notepad++ or another discipline-specific program? Now is the time to request it. Education technology has opened the CLC software request process for instructors who need specific software packages installed in computer learning centers across campus. Visit the EdTech website to get started. Enter all requests before close of business on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Move bikes from Havener rack

All bicycles parked outside the Havener Center must be moved by Friday, Oct. 24, for construction work. If they are not moved, bikes will be taken to the University Police as lost-and-found items.

Cudney named ASEM Fellow

Dr. Elizabeth Cudney, associate professor of engineering management and systems engineering, was named a 2014 Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) on Oct. 17 at ASEM’s annual international conference. Fellowship is the highest level of membership in the society and is awarded to those who demonstrate significant engineering management accomplishments and continue to serve the society.

Fleck earns ROTC’s Andy Yost Award

Dr. Patti Fleck, director of counseling, disability support and student wellness, received the Andy “Ruck Sack” Yost Award for Selfless Service from Missouri S&T’s Army ROTC. Once a year, Army ROTC presents the award to one cadet and one faculty or staff member.

FDA lecturer to speak Oct. 27

Dr. Yongbin Zhang of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will give a seminar at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in Room 139 Shrenk Hall. The title of his presentation is “Characterizations in Nanotoxicity Assessment and Nanomedicine Development: A Regulatory Perspective.”

Apply for ALDP by Dec. 5

Applications for the Administrative Leadership Development Program (ALDP) must be submitted by Friday, Dec. 5. More information, including the ALDP brochure and applications, is available online. This deadline will enable the program to avoid the holiday season and allow a better schedule for the participants’ pre-retreat work.
