State of the University Oct. 8

Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader will give the State of the University address at noon Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall.

McCaskill to speak at S&T today

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill will speak about combating sexual violence on college and university campuses as part of her “Claire on Campus” tour across Missouri. The event will be held from 2:15-3:30 p.m. today (Monday, Oct. 6) in St. Pat’s Ballroom C of the Havener Center.

Help prevent suicide

Counseling, disability support and student wellness reminds the campus community that the Missouri S&T Suicide Prevention Training Program was designed to help faculty, staff and students prevent suicide by teaching them to identify people at risk for suicide, recognize protective factors and warning signs of suicide, respond to the signs, and get help. Hybrid truck battery display Oct. 6

Doe Run representatives will show off a new Dodge Ram hybrid truck and its battery technology 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the McNutt Hall mall area. The state-of-the-art vehicle is an advanced hybrid that utilizes natural gas and advanced lead-acid batteries.

COER candidate open forum

Student affairs invites members of the campus community to attend an open forum 1-1:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, in Room 249 Toomey Hall to meet a candidate for the position of assistant director of career opportunities and employer relations (COER). The applicant has been asked to imagine how COER can contribute to one or more of the campus strategic initiatives. The brief talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Hispanic Heritage Month movie night

The Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers, student diversity programs, and leadership and cultural programs are hosting Hispanic Heritage Month’s first movie night at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Room 204 McNutt Hall. National Latino AIDS Awareness Day

The Society of Professional Hispanic Engineers is partnering with AIDS Project of the Ozarks and Joe’s PEERS to offer free HIV/AIDS testing 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Havener Center. Come by for free testing and information about safe sex. Contact for more information.

EWB Day of the Dead 5K run

Run a 5K with the Missouri S&T Engineers Without Borders chapter at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, starting from Meramec Vineyards, 600 State Route B in St. James, Missouri. Register online through Split Second Timing. Registration will also be offered at the race site that morning.

Enroll in a new Zumba class

Enroll in a new Zumba class for faculty and staff. The class will meet 6:45-7:30 a.m. Mondays Oct. 13 – Nov. 17 in the Black Box Theater, Room 143 Castleman Hall.
