Power outage August 9

|

The first of two new substation transformers was installed on Wednesday, June 18. The transformer is equipped with an automated load tap changer that controls the campus distribution voltage independent of the utility-supplied voltage. The variation in voltage has caused power quality issues with campus equipment in the past.

The next campuswide power outage is planned for Saturday, Aug. 9, for installation of the second transformer.

This will require a total power outage lasting up to four hours for all university buildings on the main campus (generally between Pine and State streets and between 10th and 16th streets, and in addition, the Havener Center, McNutt Hall, Quad Dorms, Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building, Student Recreation Center, General Services, Comp Flow Lab, and Temporary Research Facility).

Buildings fed directly by Rolla Municipal Utilities will not be affected. These include: Campus Support Facility, Bureau of Mines Buildings, Residence Halls No. 1 and 2, Thomas Jefferson Hall, South Central Regional Professional Development Center, Nagogami Apartments, Rock Mechanics, Miner Recreation, Student Design, Student Health Center, Custodial and Grounds, Southwestern Bell Cultural Center, 1304 North Pine, and 14th Street Building.

Laboratory equipment should be secured as necessary. Campus departments with special temporary power needs should contact Jim Packard or Mike Amick at 341-4252 by July 25 for the Aug. 9 outage.
