New book stresses communication for engineers

|

Engineers aren't known for their communication skills, and that's exactly why Dr. David Van Aken, professor of materials science and engineering, decided to write a book to address the issue.

Van Aken is the co-author of a new textbook titled Reporting Results: A Practical Guide for Engineers and Scientists, published this month by Cambridge University Press. Van Aken wrote the book with Dr. William Hosford, a colleague in materials science from the University of Michigan.

According to Van Aken the idea for the book came about after 22 years of teaching undergraduate laboratory classes and from the frustration of not having a text that specifically dealt with writing engineering reports.

Missouri S&T faculty interested in reviewing the book for consideration in their course work may obtain a free copy by logging on to the Cambridge University Press website.
